ICL / IPCL
Procedure 1 of 2
Implantable Phakic Contact Lens (IPCL)
IPCL, or Implantable Phakic Lens, is a revolutionary refractive-error solution well-suited for almost everyone who wants to get rid of spectacles. It is ideal for patients who are otherwise unsuitable for corneal procedures like LASIK or PRK, due to a thin corneal profile or extreme refractive error. Unlike contact lenses, IPCLs are surgically placed directly into the eye and designed to precisely match the shape of your eye. The lens is neither visible nor causes discomfort — the procedure is safe, painless, reversible, and offers better visual results than many other refractive procedures. It has proven effective in most cases, including hypermetropia, and requires careful planning and implantation.
Why Choose IPCL Eye Treatment
- IPCL is comparable to a lens inserted into the eye through a small 2.8mm incision.
- This lens corrects a long range of Myopia (near-sightedness), Hyperopia (far-sightedness), Astigmatism (cylindrical power) and Presbyopia (both distance and near vision).
- It offers high-quality vision — IPCL doesn't just correct refractive power, it also enhances overall visual quality.
- It is foldable, so it can be inserted through a small incision — a smaller incision means quicker healing.
- Like other laser vision-correction procedures that permanently change vision, an IPCL can also be removed in future if needed.
Benefits of IPCL
No blood, no pain, no stitches — excellent, high-quality vision. The procedure takes about 8–10 minutes per eye with fast recovery, and requires no removal of corneal tissue.
Procedure 2 of 2
Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL)
The ICL, or Implantable Collamer Lens, is a synthetic lens comparable in function to a contact lens, and in structure closely resembles an intraocular lens (IOL). The lens material — technologically advanced and UV-protected — has a collagen base that makes it fully compatible with the body. During the minor surgical procedure, the ICL is placed in front of the eye's natural lens, in a way that it's invisible to others, including the patient. Unlike LASIK, which requires removal of part of the cornea, ICL is an intraocular procedure and is best suited to people with moderate to severe refractive error, or for patients with thin corneas or chronic dry eye. Vista Eye Care is among the first few eye clinics authorised to perform Implantable Collamer Lens surgery in India.
How Is ICL Different From LASIK?
During LASIK, the shape of the cornea is permanently changed — this involves cutting and removing eye tissue that cannot be replaced, so the changes made are permanent and cannot be reversed. During ICL surgery, by contrast, the lens is placed in front of the eye's natural lens, improving its focusing ability and drastically improving vision. If your prescription changes, or you aren't satisfied with your ICL, the lens can be exchanged or removed. However, the procedure isn't ideal for people with severe eye conditions such as glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy.
Advantages of ICL
- Best and safest spectacle-removal choice for patients with high levels of refractive error and astigmatism.
- No induced dry-eye syndrome, which is sometimes a temporary side effect of LASIK.
- No interference with the stability of the cornea.
- Suitable for patients with thin corneas.
- Provides UV protection to the eyes.
- Sharper vision.
- Unlike LASIK, which is permanent, ICL is completely removable.
- Offers a far better quality of life, even for those in whom LASIK might not be possible.
- Results are visible within 24 hours post-operatively.

FAQs About ICL / IPCL
LASIK reshapes the cornea using a laser, while ICL involves implanting a lens inside the eye without removing corneal tissue. ICL/IPCL is often recommended for very high power or thinner corneas unsuitable for LASIK.
